Modern Slavery Statement
Financial year 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026 · Last updated 11 September 2026
This statement sets out the steps Custom Boxes takes to understand and address the risk of modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and supply chain. It is made in the spirit of section 54 of the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015, and reflects our commitments under comparable legislation in the other markets we serve, including the Australian Modern Slavery Act 2018, Canada's Fighting Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act, and the US Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act.
1. Our organisation
Custom Boxes manufactures and supplies custom printed packaging — corrugated boxes, folding cartons, rigid and magnetic gift boxes, food-grade packaging and retail display units — to business customers in 24 countries across North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific. We operate from Office #5y, First Floor, Unit 2, Little Giant Mall, 30–32 Knowsley Street, Manchester, Greater Manchester, UK M8 8HQ. We share this address and part of our operational team with our sister company Custom Swing Tags, and the commitments in this statement apply across both businesses.
2. Our supply chain
Our supply chain is short and materials-led. The principal tiers are:
- Paper and board mills supplying corrugated board, folding boxboard, greyboard and speciality wrap papers.
- Converting and print partners who cut, print, laminate, glue and finish to our specifications.
- Component suppliers for inks, coatings, adhesives, foils, magnets, ribbon, foam and window film.
- Logistics providers handling parcel and pallet freight into our 24 markets.
We consider the highest inherent risk to sit with lower-tier raw material and component sourcing, and with agency and seasonal labour at converting sites during peak periods — not with our direct commercial relationships, which are long-standing and contracted.
3. Policies
- We prohibit the use of forced, bonded, indentured, involuntary or child labour anywhere in our operations or supply chain.
- We require that all workers have freely entered into employment, are free to leave, and retain their own identity documents.
- We prohibit recruitment fees being charged to workers at any point in our supply chain.
- We require lawful wages, lawful working hours and freedom of association in accordance with local law.
- We operate a non-retaliation policy for anyone raising a concern in good faith.
4. Due diligence
- Supplier onboarding. New material and converting suppliers are asked to confirm compliance with applicable modern slavery, labour and health-and-safety legislation before we place a first order.
- Certification preference. We preferentially source FSC and PEFC chain-of-custody certified board, which brings documented traceability back through the fibre supply chain.
- Geographic screening. We screen sourcing regions against recognised forced-labour risk indicators and will not knowingly source material from regions subject to import prohibitions in our markets.
- Contractual terms. Our supplier terms include the right to terminate for confirmed modern slavery breaches.
- Review. Supplier declarations and certifications are reviewed at least annually and whenever a supplier's ownership, site or sourcing region changes.
5. Training and awareness
Everyone involved in purchasing, supplier selection and production planning is briefed on the indicators of forced and exploited labour — restricted freedom of movement, withheld documents, recruitment debt, unexplained deductions, and third parties speaking on a worker's behalf — and on how to escalate a concern internally without going through the supplier.
6. Effectiveness
We monitor the proportion of board purchased under chain-of-custody certification, the proportion of active suppliers with a current compliance declaration on file, the number of concerns raised and how they were resolved, and the outcome of the annual supplier review. We have identified no confirmed instance of modern slavery in our operations or supply chain in this reporting period.
7. Raising a concern
Anyone — employee, supplier, worker in our supply chain, or member of the public — can raise a concern about modern slavery connected to our business by emailing sales@boxes-custom.com with "Modern slavery concern" in the subject line, or by writing to us at the address above. Reports may be made anonymously. We investigate every report, we do not tolerate retaliation against anyone who raises one in good faith, and we will report credible findings to the relevant authorities.
In the UK you can also contact the Modern Slavery & Exploitation Helpline on 08000 121 700. If someone is in immediate danger, contact the emergency services.
8. Approval
This statement covers the financial year 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026 and is reviewed and republished annually. It was approved by the management of Custom Boxes.
