A custom shipping box is a printed regular slotted container (RSC) built to a specified edge crush test rating so it survives parcel and pallet transit. Unlike a mailer, it is glued or stitched at the manufacturer's joint and closed with tape, which makes it the cheaper choice at volume and the stronger choice for heavy goods.
The defining spec of a shipping box is not its print — it is its board grade. Edge Crush Test (ECT) measures how much stacking load a linear inch of board takes before it buckles; 32 ECT single wall handles roughly 20 kg, 44 ECT handles 30 kg, and double-wall grades go well beyond that. Under-specifying board is the single most common cause of transit damage claims.
RSC construction means all flaps are the same depth and the outer flaps meet in the middle. That geometry is what lets a shipper be erected by machine, taped in one pass, and stacked six high on a pallet without deforming. It is why fulfilment centres and 3PLs standardise on it.
Printing on a shipper is usually flexographic — one to three spot colours direct to kraft or white liner. It is dramatically cheaper per unit than litho-lamination, and for a box that will be handled by carriers rather than customers, a clean two-colour logo normally outperforms full-bleed photography on cost per impression.

The construction decides how the box closes, how much it protects and what it costs. These are the formats we produce most often for custom shipping boxes.
The workhorse. All flaps equal length, outer flaps meet at the centre. Lowest cost per cubic inch.
Outer flaps fully overlap for double thickness at the top and bottom — used for heavy or rough-handled loads.
Open-top tray, usually paired with a telescoping lid for oversized goods.
Two fluted layers for loads over 30 kg or long-haul freight.
Every order is cut to your interior dimensions — these are the sizes customers request most often, and a useful starting point if you are not sure where to begin.
| Size (L × W × D) | Typical use |
|---|---|
| 8 x 6 x 4 in | Single small SKU, books, accessories |
| 12 x 9 x 6 in | Standard multi-item parcel |
| 16 x 12 x 8 in | Homeware, small appliances |
| 18 x 14 x 10 in | Bulk apparel, case packs |
| 24 x 18 x 12 in | Oversized and freight consignments |
Weigh the packed box, then pick the ECT grade with a 25% margin. Damage claims cost far more than a heavier board.
A 1 in change in footprint can add a whole extra layer per pallet. Tell us your pallet spec and we will optimise the cube.
Two flexo spot colours on kraft delivers most of the branding value at a fraction of litho-lamination cost.
If boxes are warehoused stacked, request the compression estimate before committing to a grade.
We manufacture for brands in 24 markets. Prices below are for one pack of 100 boxes at the standard specification. Delivery is free everywhere except Japan, where air freight is quoted separately.

The headline price includes local VAT or GST where that market requires it. If you are VAT-registered you reclaim that, so the excl. tax column is your real cost. US and Canadian prices add sales tax at invoicing instead. Volume pricing improves at 250, 500, 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 units — see wholesale custom boxes for the volume tiers.
